The goal of our clerkships is to provide 3rd and 4th year medical students with an opportunity to practice clinical skills in a realistic family medicine setting.

Objectives:

  • Sharpen history taking and physical diagnosis skills in an outpatient or inpatient setting
  • Practice medical decision making utilizing PDA and desktop support
  • Learn to present cases to attendings and utilize consultants appropriately
  • Understand the role of family medicine in the overall medical system
  • Experience interaction and post-graduate medical education with family medicine residents

Requirements/Logistics for Either Clerkship

  • Lodging may be available at no charge in the nurse dormitory on hospital grounds.
  • It is necessary to have use of a car for the clerkship experiences.
  • Fill out the application. Send copy of an up-to-date resume and USMLE score(s)
  • If a non-Virginian student, your medical school must provide:
    • Letter of approval of clerkship and indicating you are a student in good standing
    • Proof of liability insurance carried by your medical school
    • Performance evaluation process requirements
