Our mission of “Family Medicine Education in the Context of Excellent Patient Care” reflects our dual role of providing a medical home for continuous, compassionate and competent healthcare, while developing the practice skills of physicians in training for the challenges of the United States’ health system. We are poised better today in performing our mission than we ever have been, with new faculty and facilities, combined with a solid base of diverse patient needs and incredibly supportive sponsorship and medical communities.
Our program has been rejuvenated by the recent addition of several enthusiastic physicians with a variety of talents. We are extremely fortunate to have their mix of talents added to an established and experienced group of physician educators.
-
Ann Thomas, MD – in charge of our medical student rotations and recruitment, performing the full scope of family medicine including obstetrics, already an awarded teacher
-
Suzanne Krzyzanowski, MD – co-managing our obstetric curriculum and longitudinal maternity care panel, recognized for her “Spirit of Family Medicine”
-
Daniel Freed, MD – recruited from rural acute care with prior practice as an optometrist, he is in charge of eye curriculum and other special didactic symposia
-
Semiha Uray, MD – practicing OB/GYN turned family medicine educator, she has always been supportive as obstetric preceptor and now she is co-managing obstetrics and directing our women’s health curriculum
-
Bob Nolte, DO – possessing a wealth of experience as a prior hospitalist and long time family medicine faculty member, he is directing our didactic curriculum
-
Matt Johnson, MD – new director of patient care, he brings experiences from private practice locally, including leadership in his prior practice and the local medical community.
Our program is housed in a state of the art and spacious new facility that meets the needs of team care and excellent teamwork. We are well supported in the facility with the smiling faces of supportive staff and nurses, having also organized ourselves into three pods to maintain patient continuity and a personal feel for our patients. We have digital radiology, outstanding laboratory expertise, three procedure rooms, and have added the services of optometric care and OB/GYN ultrasound for our patients. Additionally, we have partnered with Virginia Legal Aid and the Community Service Board to fill gaps of care the legal and mental health issues in children often create.
For over 30 years, Lynchburg Family Medicine has played a pivotal role in the health of the Lynchburg Community. As Centra’s oldest and most productive practice, we enjoy the reputation that leads to building a broad base of patients of all ages and backgrounds.
Additionally, one of our faculty – George Wortley, MD – provides invaluable rural experiences for our residents in his satellite clinic 30 minutes from Lynchburg.
Lynchburg’s medical community is unusually broad for a city our size and recruited with the understanding of family medicine residents being welcomed by the community. Residents frequently remark on how their rotation preceptors have changed their perception and broadened their viewpoints. The medical community is proud of the residents we produce and we are very impressed with the education that they provide our residents.
We welcome you to check out Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency. You may never have heard of Lynchburg or been to Central Virginia, but once you visit us, you will not forget how happy and well trained our residents are.
With best wishes in your search,
David S. Gregory, MD, FAAFP
